About
Grant Windle is a solo pianist and singer for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Low key but passionate is how Grant Windle puts it, and that's an honest summary. He plays piano for roughly three quarters of a set and guitar for the rest, singing jazz, ballads, love songs, Great American Songbook material, R&B and classic hits. The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Bread, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Carpenters, Norah Jones, Burt Bacharach and Coldplay all turn up. He's not the person to get a dance floor going and he says so. What he does instead is build atmosphere, which is what a jazz bar, a piano bar, a hotel lobby or a restaurant actually needs. He'll play a good grand piano if there is one and bring his own keyboard if there isn't, along with a PA that suits smaller rooms.
Watch
The show
Roughly three quarters of the night is Grant at the piano or keyboard, the last quarter on guitar, which gives the set two distinct textures rather than one sound stretched thin. The material wanders through the Great American Songbook, swing, jazzy ballads, R&B and classic hits, taking in The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Norah Jones, Burt Bacharach and Coldplay. He's upfront about what this isn't. He won't have your guests up on tables. What he does is set a mood and hold it, which is the actual job in a restaurant, a hotel lobby or a piano bar.
On the day
If there's a good grand piano in the building he'll play it. If there isn't, he brings his own keyboard and it's no drama either way. His Bose PA suits smaller rooms, or bigger ones where you want the volume kept down. Beyond a power point he's self contained.
