Groove Brothers and Soul Sister is a musical trio for hire in Hove, SA.
Formed in 2012, this Adelaide trio plays party music for grown-up rooms, and shifts down into something smoother whenever that suits better. The mix is drawn to order: cocktail and crooner material, jazz, classic rock, pop, soul, and whatever is charting now. Their song list runs past 800 titles and keeps growing, so requests made at booking time, or even on the night, usually get played. Give them a couple of weeks and it's close to certain. Mel Tickle has performed with bands across South Australia, appeared in local theatre, placed high in an interstate Battle of the Bands, and played in Los Angeles, Memphis and Minneapolis. Audience participation is half the point. Public liability insurance is held.
The show
Three voices, and the material moves to suit the hour. Cocktail and crooner songs while people are arriving and talking, jazz where it fits, then classic rock, pop, soul and current chart songs once the room wants to move. Mel, Belinda and Lewis all have theatre stages behind them as well as pub ones, and it shows in how they work an audience. Requests are welcome. With a couple of weeks' notice they'll almost certainly have your song ready.
On the day
As a trio they'd like about six metres wide by three deep for the gear and the performance. A safe 240 volt supply is needed. They also ask for a small lockable space, roughly the size of an accessible toilet, so the band can change into show clothes and back out again. Outdoors, power safety and weather cover for the band matter. Worth flagging early if the room is upstairs or reached by steps, and whether parking is paid.
