About
Salty Jez is a musical soloist for hire in Sunshine Coast, QLD.
Salty Jez plays a loose mix of rock and roll, blues and reggae, 60s through to now, and he reads the room before deciding which way to lean. Background ambience or something louder, depending on what the night needs. The loop pedal is the trick: combined with a modulation pedal and some beatboxing, one person sounds like considerably more than one person. A long stretch working in hospitality wore him out on hearing identical versions of identical songs night after night, so he puts his own spin on the familiar ones and throws in a few nobody's heard flogged to death. House of the Rising Sun, Is This Love, Gold on the Ceiling, Roadhouse Blues, Wish You Were Here, Little Wing, My Happiness. Sunshine Coast based, and all he needs is power and cover if rain looks likely.
Watch
The show
A laid back mix of rock and roll, reggae and blues running from the 60s to now. Jez reads the crowd before deciding which way to take it, so you get quiet background ambience or loud rock and roll depending on what the night actually needs. Years of working in hospitality left him tired of hearing the same songs played the same way, so the familiar ones get his own spin and he drops in a few nobody has heard done to death. A loop pedal, a modulation pedal and some beatboxing build the illusion of a full band, and a kick and snare stomp box keeps the rhythm underneath whatever he is playing.
On the day
One power outlet gets him going, and that really is the whole list. If rain looks likely on the day, he will want somewhere covered to play, so an outdoor booking is worth a thought about where he would go if the weather turns.
