About
Kane James is a musical soloist for hire in Sunshine Coast, QLD.
Looped dub reggae grooves with saxophone drifting over the top of them, touching indie, funk and blues along the way. Kane James plays the Sunshine Coast with a mix of originals and covers pulled from Sublime, Gorillaz, The Black Keys, Bob Marley, Sticky Fingers, The Beautiful Girls, Bill Withers and the Rolling Stones. It moves between mellow and upbeat rather than sitting in one gear all night. He plays guitar, sings, and loops the whole thing live. Power for the PA and gear is all that's needed at the venue's end.
The show
Guitar, voice and saxophone, all looped live in front of you, so one person builds up something that sounds considerably bigger. Kane James leans on dub reggae grooves as the foundation and then wanders into indie, funk and blues depending on where the afternoon goes. There's a mix of his own material and covers, and the set genuinely shifts gear rather than sitting at one tempo for three hours. If a particular record matters to you, ask. He'll tell you straight whether it fits what he does.
On the day
Power at the spot where he's playing, and that's it. Kane James brings his own PA and everything that plugs into it. Give him a bit of room to lay out the loop pedals and the sax stand and he'll be sorted.
