About
Emile Battour is a musical soloist for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Solo acoustic looping is a strange skill. One person, a pile of pedals, and a sound that fills a room like a band. Emile Battour built that out of a decade playing Melbourne, regional Victoria and further afield, after starting in the city's heavy music scene. He's a multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ with a bluesy voice, and the sets pull from all over: RUFUS DU SOL, Bob Marley, Bill Withers, Sam Sparro, plus reggae and singalong stretches when the night wants them. He can play acoustic, DJ, or run both across an evening. Own PA, mixer and cables come with him.
The show
Covers, and a broad spread of them. Emile pulls from RUFUS DU SOL through Bob Marley, Bill Withers and Sam Sparro, with reggae and a singalong stretch when the night calls for it, and the looping means one bloke can sound a lot fuller than one bloke usually does. It suits a pub as easily as a backyard party. And because the source material moves around that much, the set can lean quiet and bluesy early then push harder later without anything feeling out of place.
On the day
He carries his own PA, mixer and every instrument and audio cable the setup needs, so the venue doesn't have to supply a system. One thing to plan around: the rig is wired, not wireless, and there's no wireless mic. In practice that means the performance spot needs to be a settled one near power rather than something roaming around your space. Worth checking your layout before the day.
Performance options
Three ways to book him. A solo acoustic set, a DJ set, or both across the one night, which is the option worth thinking about if you want live music through dinner and something with more push once people are up. Same person either way, so there's no changeover between acts and no second load-in. Tell him how the evening runs and he'll suggest the split.
