The show
A Western Australian pair who write together, and it shows in the songs. Lyrics that read like poetry sit over playing with some thought behind it, and the subjects run from the ordinary business of being alive to the stranger end of it. On stage that means fiery guitar flourishes, lilting vocal harmonies and rhythms with a push underneath them. Latin, jazz, blues, classical and world music all leave marks, wrapped up in something closer to contemporary indie pop. Chilali and the Chief handle well known covers the same way they handle their own material, which is to say the arrangement is theirs.
