About
David Ung is a magician for hire in Rhodes, NSW.
There are two ways to book David, and plenty of events take both. Roving close-up magic means he moves group to group and the tricks happen in the guests' own hands, which is where the yelling usually starts. The stand-up show gathers everyone together instead, running anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, with comedy woven through it. He works corporate functions, weddings and private parties out of Sydney. For roving he just wants a floor plan. For the show he needs a stage close to the audience, no dance floor gaping between the two, and a mic if the venue is big. Props and tables are his. Full public liability insurance, with documentation for the venue if they ask.
Watch
The show
You'll hear it before you see it. A knot of guests across the room suddenly shouting and laughing, because the trick just happened in their own hands. David works one group at a time and reads which way each one wants to go, so the loud table gets something different from the quiet corner. Nobody gets dragged into the spotlight who doesn't want to be. The point of it, from your side, is that you stop having to worry about whether people are enjoying themselves for that stretch of the night.
On the day
For roving magic, a floor plan of the function is all he needs and the rest is his problem. For the stand-up show, a stage with the audience close to it, and please don't leave a dance floor sitting empty between the two, because that gap kills a show. A microphone if the venue is large. Props and tables come with him.
Performance options
Roving magic means close-up work moving group to group through your guests. The stand-up show is the opposite, everyone gathered and watching the one performance, and it runs anywhere from 15 minutes up to a full hour. The third option is both together, which works well at bigger events because the roving warms people up and gets them talking before they sit down for the main show.
