He can perform for two people at a table or a few thousand in a hall, and he'll shape the show around your event rather than running the same twenty minutes at everyone.
On the day
Roving needs nothing set up. He arrives at least 20 minutes early with everything on him and starts working the room. Parlour magic takes 15 minutes to set, and he's there half an hour ahead. For stage shows he confirms sound and lighting with the venue beforehand, then arrives an hour early to run a proper check. If he's MCing, he'll have as many planning sessions as it takes to nail the script and run sheet, then turn up an hour early to check sound and lighting, confirm any late changes and sort out anything the day needs.
