Two acts give Hollywell as home and neither is a band: a Santa and an Elvis impersonator. Which tells you something true about this little canal suburb between Runaway Bay and Paradise Point, where the parties are at home, on a pontoon or in a waterfront backyard, and a character walking through the gate goes down better than a drum kit. The rest of the list is the Gold Coast's, starting with a soloist and two singers a couple of minutes away at Coombabah and Runaway Bay. For a Christmas party on the water, honestly, this is one of the better pages on the site.
Being small has its uses. Hollywell sits inside the same circle as Coombabah, Biggera Waters and Labrador, so the trade mix on this page is the northern Gold Coast's, singers ahead of cover bands, duos, soloists and DJs, and the distances are short in every direction. A wedding DJ and a tribute show are minutes away at Biggera Waters, a barbershop chorus at Arundel. The larger bands are pinned to the Gold Coast as a whole and come up the highway from Southport and beyond.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Hollywell. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Usually a half-hour to an hour: arrival, a chat and a photo with each child, gifts you've supplied and labelled beforehand, then a wave and gone. The Santa based here in Hollywell can walk in from the street or, for a canal house, arrive by boat if you organise the boat. Give the names and ages in advance so nobody's forgotten, and have the presents hidden where the kids won't find them first.
The one at Biggera Waters is a Vegas-style show and it's a couple of minutes away, so the drive is nothing. What matters is space and sound: a show with backing tracks and a small PA fits a deck, and a full band with a stage doesn't. Ask how many performers turn up and what they need plugged in, then decide whether the backyard or a surf club room is the better fit.
All of them do, and most won't mention the trip. Hollywell to Southport is ten or fifteen minutes, and the bands pinned to Gold Coast on this page are spread from there down to Burleigh, which is still under half an hour up the M1 on a normal night. For a wedding at a Broadwater venue the band is more likely to ask about the loading dock than the distance.
The last three weeks before Christmas are the only weeks a Santa works, and every waterfront street party wants the same Saturday. Ask in November at the latest, and say whether it's a walk-through or a sit-down with the kids.
Water carries noise across to the houses opposite, and a canal is wider than a fence but not by much. Keep amplified music to a soloist or a duo and finish the loud part by ten.
Coombabah, Biggera Waters and Labrador list the same acts at slightly different distances. Compare from-prices across them if you like, but you're looking at one pool of northern Gold Coast acts.
