Camden's top of the list is properly local, which isn't true of every page this close to Sydney. A cellist, a wedding band, solo singers and an acoustic guitarist give Camden itself as home, and the DJs, another wedding band and a soloist come from Grasmere, Camden South, Mount Annan and Oran Park, all a few minutes away across the new estates. Scroll further, though, and the circle reaches Campbelltown, Penrith, the inner west and even Wollongong, so the long tail is the whole of south-west Sydney.
Macarthur throws a particular kind of party. The blocks are big at Cobbitty and Grasmere, the estates at Oran Park and Gregory Hills are full of young families, and a lot of what gets booked is a backyard engagement, a first birthday or a christening lunch with a DJ or a duo, not a hotel ballroom. The cellist and the jazz band near the top of the list are the ones to look at if you want something quieter for a ceremony or a long lunch.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Camden. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
The DJs near the top of this page are within a few minutes of Camden, so a local quote has no travel in it and comes down to hours and what they bring. A backyard set with one speaker in Oran Park and a club function with lights and a wireless mic in Narellan are different jobs, and a Saturday in spring costs more than a Friday in June. The from-prices beside each DJ above are the current Macarthur starting points.
Many do, and it depends where in Sydney they start. An inner west band is an hour down the M5 or the M7 on a Saturday afternoon and might add a modest line; a northern beaches act is nearly two hours and will. The Wollongong acts on this page are the surprise: the run up through Picton is about the same as from the city, and some quote it flat. Get the travel shown separately and compare it with a Camden or Oran Park act that has none.
For a garden ceremony at one of the old properties around Camden or Cobbitty, yes, and there's one based in town. A solo cello carries a walk-in and the signing beautifully without any amplification indoors, but outside it wants a small speaker and shade, because heat and direct sun are hard on the instrument. Book the cellist for the ceremony and drinks, then hand over to a DJ or the wedding band for the night.
Yes; quotes here come back in writing, so a surprise fortieth in Mount Annan stays a surprise. Put a note in the enquiry saying email only and why, give the date and the address, and the act replies with a price you can sit on until you're ready. Nothing is booked until you accept that written quote.
Oran Park, Mount Annan and Camden South are ten minutes apart, so any of those acts is effectively next door. Wollongong and Newtown acts appear because the circle is wide, and they'll usually put the drive on the quote.
Most Macarthur functions happen at home or in a park, so ask the DJ or duo what PA they bring and whether they need a power point near the marquee. Say if the yard backs onto neighbours with a curfew.
Camden acts treat Picton, Bowral and the properties down the Hume as their own turf. For a Highlands wedding, a Camden act is closer than a Sydney one and usually cheaper to bring.
