There are three Brightons on this site and this is the quiet one: the flat stretch of foreshore north of Brisbane between Sandgate and Clontarf, looking across Bradbury Park and the bay towards Redcliffe. Not the bayside Melbourne suburb, not the South Australian beach. Say the state when you enquire and you will save everyone a message.
The nearest ten are all Brisbane acts, pinned to the city and the best part of twenty kilometres south of here, which up the Gateway or through Nudgee is a solid half hour. Every one of them shows reviews, and the pool leans heavily to cover bands, duos and jazz rather than DJs, which is unusual and very Brisbane. For a waterfront party that is good news, because a duo on a deck beats a DJ on a deck nine times out of ten.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Brighton. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Queensland, on Moreton Bay north of Brisbane, next to Sandgate and across the water from Redcliffe. There is also a Brighton in Melbourne and one in Adelaide, and acts get enquiries for the wrong one regularly. Put the postcode in your message and it never comes up.
Brisbane's pool genuinely runs the other way to Sydney's and Melbourne's: cover bands, duos and singers are deeper here than DJs. It shows up on every northern bayside page, not just this one. If a DJ is what you want, they exist in numbers further down the results, they just do not crowd the top of the nearest ten.
A duo or a small acoustic group, on a deck or under a marquee with the gear well back from the sand. The bay is the reason people are there, so an act that plays under the conversation for the first couple of hours and lifts later fits the evening better than something loud from the start. Ask what they carry for outdoor work, particularly power and weather cover.
The foreshore here is wide open and the north-easter comes in most summer afternoons. Put the act with their back to it and have a plan for the gear if the weather turns, because there is no shelter to speak of along the esplanade.
This end of the bay goes out a long way and the flats are not where you want a PA. If the plan involves anything near the waterline, check the tide for your date first and set up well above it.
A Brisbane act coming to Brighton is doing an hour of driving around the job, and the honest ones will say so in the quote. Ask whether travel is in the number up front so the final invoice holds no surprises.
