About
The Oompah Loompah Band is a German entertainer for hire in Sydney, NSW.
Brass, costumes and a beer-hall singalong, in Sydney. The Oompah Loompah Band mixes the old German oompah repertoire, Ein Prosit, the Beer Barrel Polka and the Chicken Dance among them, with Aussie pub rock and pop that the whole room already knows. Working Class Man sits beside a Liechtensteiner Polka. Bohemian Rhapsody follows 99 Luftballons. It works because the crowd is part of the act: call-and-response choruses, stein-holding contests, a bit of yodelling and a conga line that tends to start on its own.
There are two ways to book it. The full stage show needs a flat patch about two metres by three and a power point. The roving version is acoustic and self-contained, so it can wander through a beer garden or a brewery floor with nothing plugged in. Either way, sets run 40 minutes, up to three of them, slotted wherever the running sheet has room. Family friendly, and the volume gets set for the room.
Watch
The show
A brass band in costume, playing German oompah standards alongside Aussie pub rock and pop songs everyone can sing. The aim is a beer hall feel, and the band get there by dragging the crowd in: call and response choruses, the chicken dance, a yodelling or stein holding contest, a conga line, and plenty of moments people will want photographed. You can have it as a full stage show or as an acoustic roving set that wanders through the crowd, across a patio or into a beer garden. The humour stays family friendly and the volume is pitched to the space, from a small brewery corner to a big corporate hall.
On the day
Roving is the easy option. The band carry everything for that, so no power or sound system is needed, just a safe spot near the action where they can leave instrument cases and personal bits. The stage show needs a little more: a flat area roughly two metres by three, a clear path for getting gear in and out quickly, and a power point within reach.
Performance options
A booking is usually one, two or three sets of 40 minutes each, played either as the roving acoustic act mingling with guests or as a proper stage performance. You can run the sets back to back or spread them across the evening around speeches and food, and the band will trim or stretch a set a little to line up with your running order.
