About
Savage Water Arts is a fire performer for hire in Mackay, QLD.
Fire eating, snake poi, staff, sword, rope dart and palm torches, all in the one show. Savage Water Arts is a contemporary fire performer working out of Mackay with an international performing history, and the multi-prop shows adapt to festival stages, small venues or a private event. The big one is Taurus, a large-scale outdoor spectacle built around a blazing horned fire helmet and additional performers. Daytime and family programs swap flame for silk fans, silk poi and stilt walking. Recent work includes Cairns Festival and the North Australian Festival of Arts in 2025. Safety is handled properly: full equipment, a trained safety person, and a site inspection before any indoor fire show. Working With Children Check current.
The show
Several different shows sit under this one act. The multi prop fire performances take in fire eating and lyco torches, snake poi, staff and double staff, rope dart, sword and palm torches, all of it adaptable to festivals, stages and special events. Taurus is the big outdoor piece, built around a blazing horned fire helmet and dramatic fire effects, and it brings additional performers with it. For daytime and family audiences at markets and festivals there is a flame free version using silk fans, silk poi and stilt walking. Fire eating works particularly well close up, so cabaret rooms and smaller venues get their own treatment.
On the day
Fire needs a safe area to work in, including somewhere to dip the props. All the safety gear comes with the act, fire blankets, extinguishers and a trained safety person included. For an indoor fire show the venue has to supply room dimensions and allow a site inspection first, so the performer can judge which props are safe in that space. Where costume and makeup are involved, a private area with a mirror is appreciated. The space should suit the scale of the show and leave a safe gap between performer and audience. Organisers get consulted on setup and timing.
