Emzi is a Perth-based LED and fire performance artist working out of Leederville, doing both roving sets and staged performances. The LED props are the ones for after dark; the day props come out for daylight and well-lit rooms. Routines are put together around the client's music and the theme of the event, and Emzi will dress to match. Roving means working the crowd one on one. Sets run 30 minutes or an hour. The show
Props everywhere. Staffs, dragon staff, fans, a pixel whip, lit up or lit on fire depending on the hour and the setting. Emzi builds the routine around the music you choose and the theme you're running, and will dress to match rather than turn up in a stock costume. Roving is the chatty version, moving through the crowd, working one on one, lifting the energy of a party as it goes. A staged performance is the other end, a set piece put together around your track list. Punctual, and breaks get taken sensibly.
On the day
The performance area gets checked for stability first, because how much room there is decides how big the props can swing. Guests walking straight into the space is the real problem, they can get hit. So for fire work, either section off a decent area or provide a platform or stage around two metres by two, enough to put distance between spinning props and the people watching.
Performance options
Five formats, and the lighting of your venue decides which fits. LED roving uses single staff, double staves, pixel whip and dragon staff, and wants darkness. Day roving swaps to non-LED staffs, dragon staff and fans for daylight or a well-lit room. Both roving options involve plenty of one on one with guests. The staged versions run the same prop sets but as a performance piece, either LED for night or day props for outdoors. Then there's the fire show, using staffs, dragon staff, fire torches and palm torches, with the option of sparkler powder dusted onto the wicks so the flames throw sparks. Everything runs as either a 30 minute or a one hour set.
