About
Lyla Joy is a drag performer for hire in Sydney, NSW.
Six years in, Lyla Joy has the showgirl polish down and the crowd-reading with it. Sydney based, working drag and burlesque performances, hosting, drag bingo, birthdays, weddings and hens nights. There are a few ways to book it: a showgirl performance with one or two numbers plus a meet and greet with photos, a fully hosted drag bingo night, or an MC package that pairs event hosting with a performance. Glamour, quick wit and a lot of audience interaction across all of them. Music can come on a labelled USB, by email beforehand or from Spotify, and a microphone is needed for any hosting work.
The show
Lyla Joy works the room rather than performing at it. There's glamour and there's a fair bit of cheek, and the two sit together better than you'd think. You'll get big personality, plenty of laughs, and an act that pulls guests in instead of leaving them watching from the edge. That could be a full drag and burlesque number, or hosting duties where Lyla carries the running order and keeps the pace up. Reading a crowd is the skill underneath all of it. Six years of gigs will teach you when to push and when to ease off, and that judgement is what you're really booking.
On the day
Music can come to you a few ways. A labelled USB turns up on the day, or the set can be sent over by email beforehand, whichever suits your venue's sound setup. For any hosting work there needs to be a microphone available, corded or wireless, both are fine. Worth checking with your venue early that they can plug in a USB or take audio from a phone, since that's the one thing that trips people up on the night.
Performance options
There are a few shapes to choose from. The showgirl booking is one or two performance numbers with a meet and greet and photos afterwards, which suits birthdays, hens parties and private celebrations. Drag bingo is a fully hosted night, comedy and audience interaction running through it, and it works well in venues and at fundraisers. The MC option pairs event hosting with a performance, so one person carries the whole running order. Or take the lot: multiple numbers, hosting, interactive bits and audience participation across the event. That last one is for a night that needs a centrepiece rather than a spot.
