About
Zak Shepherd Music is a DJ for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Zak Shepherd covers both halves of a night. Live acoustic music early, DJ sets later, or whichever one you actually need. Corporate work has included live music for private dinners and functions at the Essendon Football Club and DJ sets for companies including Maben Group and Harcourts. The planning is unusually thorough for a solo act. Book him for a wedding and you get two Zoom chats: the first walking through the run sheet, the songs you want and the ones you definitely do not, the second a run through of how the day will actually play out. He brings his own gear, including a battery powered PA that will run at genuinely remote venues, and asks only for some cover if the event sits in full sun for hours. Insured. Also books as a duo, a full band, or with a second vocalist.

The show
Zak is upfront about what he can and can't do, which saves everyone guessing. Book him for a wedding and there are two Zoom chats first. The opening one covers how the day runs, what songs go where and, just as importantly, what never gets played. A run sheet from you makes that easier. The second walks through the whole thing again with his notes from the first. Other events need one call. Then on the night, expect songs people already know and a read of the room that shifts as the room does, whether he's singing it on the guitar or running it off the decks.
On the day
All the gear is his, including a battery powered PA, which means a venue with no power at all is still workable. That opens up paddocks, beaches and properties well off the grid. One ask: if the event sits in open space under hours of sun, some cover for him and the equipment goes a long way.
Performance options
The most popular booking pairs solo acoustic music with a DJ service, so the early part of the night is live and the later part is on the decks. Each half can also be booked on its own. Acoustic works as a solo or as a duo, and for the duo there's a choice between two different female singers. Weddings get arrangements covering the ceremony, canapés and reception sets, and there are separate ones for private parties and corporate events. If your event doesn't fit any of those, send through the details and something gets put together for it.
