About
Waiting for Brenda is a cover band for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Some of it moves a room, some of it quietens one. Waiting for Brenda are a six piece from Brisbane playing alt-country, rock and blues, built around dobro, fiddle, bass, drums, guitar and vocals, with originals from songwriter Brenda Lee Kelly sitting alongside covers. The covers lean towards Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Billy Bragg, The Pogues, Gillian Welch, Marty Robbins and the Go-Betweens. There's a countrified indie folk thing going on, with more swagger than the description suggests. They've played bars, cafes, festivals, weddings, parties, corporate nights and council events, and the show comes with stories between the songs and a decent amount of dancing.
Watch
The show
Six players on stage, all of them long past the nervous stage, working through material that jumps between genres rather than settling into one groove for the night. There's real energy in how they play it. The room list tells you the range: bars and cafes, festivals, weddings, private parties, corporate nights and council events have all had them, which means they know how to pitch a set at a Saturday crowd and how to pitch one at a Tuesday civic function. Expect a lively show and performers who don't coast.
