Soulshine is a cover band for hire in Lennox Head, NSW.
Linda Seale's voice sits out the front of Soulshine, with John De Laurence on guitar and slide underneath it. Alfie Miller Sharp, conservatorium trained, plays keys. The rhythm section is Peter Cook on bass, whose credits include Vultures and Mal Eastick, and Stu Eadie on drums, who has played with The Whitlams and Karma County. Blues rock and country rock is the territory: Norah Jones, Susan Tedeschi, Fleetwood Mac, Chris Stapleton, Bill Withers, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker, Lucinda Williams, Sade. Laid back where it should be, then properly muscular when the song asks. Based at Lennox Head. They carry their own PA and lights for venues that don't have them, and need room for five.
The show
Soul, blues, roots and unhurried rock songs, taking in Norah Jones and Susan Tedeschi at one end and Fleetwood Mac and Chris Stapleton at the other. The playing is the draw here. These are musicians with a lot of years behind them and it shows in how they listen to each other, which is not something a newer band can fake. Artful when the song wants delicacy, and with real feeling behind it throughout.
