About
Slow Cooker R&B is a cover band for hire in Brisbane City, QLD.
A Brisbane trio playing soul, blues, R&B and jazz, with originals sitting alongside the covers. Slow Cooker R&B lean on Motown dance tunes and the funk of the fifties, sixties and seventies: Aretha, Sam and Dave, Bill Withers, Cream, BB King, Freddie King, Joe Cocker. Over 200 songs, plus a bag of jazz standards for the quieter end of the night. They read the difference between a cocktail hour and a main stage and play accordingly. The three piece brings all its own gear and PA. Want a sax or a harp player, the band expands to four. For smaller rooms it can shrink to a duo.
Watch
The show
Three players who watch the room and adjust. Slow Cooker R&B know the difference between background music over drinks and a set that's meant to fill a floor, and they play the night accordingly. Motown, Aretha, Bill Withers, BB King, plus jazz standards when the volume needs to come down. Over 200 songs to draw on, so the running order isn't locked in advance. If you want more front line, a sax or a harp player joins and it becomes a four piece.
On the day
The trio arrives with its own instruments and its own PA, so your venue doesn't need to supply sound. If the room already has a system, or the venue has particular rules about what can be plugged in where, tell them when you enquire and they'll work to it. Easiest thing you can do is confirm early who is supplying what, because that changes how much they load in.
Performance options
Three players is the standard shape. Add a sax or a harp and you've got a four piece with more punch across the front. Going the other way, they'll strip back to a duo, which suits a smaller room or a function where a full band would swamp the space. Distance to the venue and how long you want them playing both feed into the shape of the booking, so mention both when you get in touch.
