EarthKin is a cover band for hire in Cairns, QLD.
Seven players, Cairns, funk and disco played properly. EarthKin puts Naurtia Briscoe and Terina Akasha out front on lead vocals, with Luke Briscoe on lead guitar, Ben Hakalitz on drums, Stephen Maxwell on keys, Mario Conde Cuarita on sax and flute and Timmy Wason on bass. Trumpet and violin players get pulled in when a song needs them. The set is Superstition, Use Me, Lady Marmalade, Brick House, Let's Groove, September, Get Lucky, with a few originals folded through it. Two 45-minute sets is the standard shape. They'll need a full PA and four mics, and a drum kit if the gig is outside Cairns.
The show
Seven players on stage and a big, warm noise coming off it. EarthKin lean on funk and soul standards that most rooms already know, and thread their own material through the same set so it never feels like a history lesson. Terina and Naurita Briscoe share the front, trading lead vocals rather than one carrying it all night. Behind them sit Luke Briscoe's guitar and Mario Conde Cuarita on sax and percussion. The energy is the thing people remember, and it's the reason the horns and the two voices are worth the room they take up.
On the day
A full PA system is needed, along with four microphones. That covers a seven piece band with vocals across the front. If the gig is inside Cairns the kit is sorted, but for anything that takes them out of town a drum kit needs to be provided at the venue. Worth confirming with your venue early, since a house kit is one of those things people assume is there and often isn't.
Performance options
The standard booking is the full seven piece funk and disco line-up playing two 45 minute sets. That shape works well when the music sits either side of a meal or speeches, giving you a break in the middle without the room going flat. Two horns and two lead vocals across a seven piece is a big sound for the money, so it suits a room where you want the dance floor busy rather than background music.
