About
Captain Wow is a cover band for hire in Gold Coast, QLD.
More than 200 shows a year, and they've kept that pace up for over twenty years. Captain Wow scale from solo to a four piece with two female lead singers and three part harmonies, so the same outfit can sit quietly through dinner and then push the dance floor once the talk winds down. The repertoire runs from the late 60s through disco, 80s retro and the 90s to today's hits. And the solo show is its own trick: guitar and vocals with the rhythm played on electronic drum pedals by foot. They hold public liability cover and play weddings, corporate nights, private parties and themed costume parties across the Gold Coast.
On the day
Outdoors, the band need a flat dry area on a level surface, with grass covered by something stable underfoot. That spot has to be shaded from the sun and protected in case the weather turns. Power is a standard 240 volt outlet, ideally with nothing else running on the same circuit. Space depends on the line-up: five metres wide by three deep for the full band, three by two for the solo show.
Performance options
Five configurations. The four piece has two female lead vocalists plus drums and carries the biggest repertoire with three part harmony. A trio drops to one female vocalist, still with three part harmony. There's a duo with a female vocalist, which widens the song range considerably compared with solo, and a duo with the drummer, who also sings backing vocals. Solo is guitar and vocals with the rhythm played on electronic drum pedals by foot, which can be kept very quiet or pushed loud, and includes electric guitar with professional backing tracks.
