Allan Watts fronts this South Coast NSW trio on lead guitar and vocals, coming off a decade touring as lead guitarist and co-manager of The Blue Ruins. Behind him sits John 'Trappa' Trevena, a seasoned session drummer with national and international tours to his name, and Steve Gordan holding down a full-bodied bass. The covers list reads like a blues education: ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson and a healthy serve of Hendrix, with originals worked in. And they bring all their own gear for venues within driving distance of Bega.
The show
Texas blues played hard by three people who've done the miles. Allan Watts fronts it on lead guitar and vocals, riff heavy and melodic, with punchy vocals over the top, and he came to this after a decade touring as lead guitarist and co-manager of The Blue Ruins. John 'Trappa' Trevena sits behind the kit, a session drummer with national and international tours behind him, and he throws in one liners between songs. Steve Gordan plays a bold, funky bass built from years of cover band work, and it's the part that gets people up off their chairs. Hard hitting and professional, but not sanded smooth.
On the day
For venues they can drive to, all the gear is theirs, so there's nothing for the venue to supply. Festival bookings that involve flights work differently, because the band flies without a backline. In that case they'll send a tech sheet through, and what it asks for is three vocal microphones, a Fender Hot Rod DeVille guitar amp, a bass rig and a DI.
