About
Captain Adam the Friendly Pirate is a costume character for hire in Preston, VIC.
A pirate with a guitar sounds like an odd combination until you watch a room of six-year-olds completely locked in. Captain Adam has been pulling that off since 2007, mixing songs, games, prizes, cartoons and balloon sculptures into shows for kids aged two to 12. The jokes are deliberately silly and the energy doesn't let up, which is how the act has clocked up thousands of shows across birthdays, holiday programs, venues and community events. He's based in Preston in Melbourne's north, holds a Working with Children Check, and carries public liability insurance. For a party that needs wrangling, a swashbuckler does the job.
The show
Captain Adam works the room rather than performing at it, which is why the act suits such different bookings. Birthday parties are the bread and butter, with songs, games, prizes, cartoons and balloon sculptures aimed at kids from about two up to 12. But the same show turns up at corporate family days and community events, and at pubs and play areas where children need entertaining while the adults get a break. He's been doing this since 2007. Thousands of shows in, the timing is worked out.
