About
Ian Dowling is a comedian for hire in Gold Coast, QLD.
Irish stand-up and MC based on the Gold Coast, Ian Dowling has played the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Sunshine Coast Comedy Festival, and a fair few outback mining towns in between. Then there's Immigrant on the Run, his 2024 tour, where he ran 100km up to Brisbane, did a sold-out hour on stage that night, and ran the whole 100km back the next day for a second show. It raised money for local homeless charities. His working life before comedy covered construction, mining, real estate, fitness and corporate sales, which is a useful background for reading a room. Black-tie awards nights, warm-up sets, hosting duties: he'll respect the brief and still get the laughs. All he needs is a microphone and a PA.

The show
Stand-up first, MC second, and Ian Dowling is comfortable in either chair. The festival stages and the mining town pubs have both had him, which is a wider apprenticeship than most comics get. His touring year included a stunt worth knowing about: he ran 100km north from the Gold Coast, played a sold-out hour that evening, then ran the same distance home the following day for a second show. Before comedy he worked construction, mining, real estate and fitness, so a sales conference holds no mystery for him. Awards nights, warm-up sets, charity lunches. He shapes the material to the crowd in front of him and stays the right side of the line.
