About
Grant Mushet is a comedian for hire in Perth, WA.
A Scottish comedian in Perth, which gives Grant Mushet an outsider's angle on Australian working life. Before comedy there were years in the mining industry, and that background makes him a natural fit for resource sector events, particularly ones touching on mental health or money. He hosts as much as he performs: product launches, team days, annual galas, fundraisers and weddings. The material bends to the audience, from light comedy through to something with a bit more in it. He also does corporate roasts, if you have a boss or a mate who can take it. For a show he needs a sound system with decent speakers, a good microphone and lighting on the stage.
The show
Grant is Scottish, lives in Perth, and gets a lot of comedy out of the gap between the two. He hosts as much as he performs, so he's comfortable running a night as well as doing a spot in it. The material bends to who's in the room. Light and daft for a Christmas party, sharper and more pointed where the audience can take it. Before comedy he worked in mining, which is why resource sector crowds tend to trust him faster than they trust most comedians.
On the day
A sound system with speakers good enough that every word lands at the back, and a microphone with decent range so he isn't pinned to one spot. Lighting on the performing area matters too, both so people can see his face and so the room feels like it's watching a show. Most function venues already have all three, but it's worth checking rather than assuming.
Performance options
The corporate roast is the one people ask about most. Aimed at a boss, a partner or a mate who can handle it, and written around that person and that room. Then there's MC work, where he holds the running order together and keeps the energy up between the formal bits. Or a full stand up show, where the comedy is the main event rather than the thing between courses.
