About
Happy Singing Kids is a children's singer for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Happy Singing Kids is led by Susanna "Susie" O'Leary, a Brisbane musician and mother whose songs come straight out of family life. The show, "Uh oh Spaghetti-oh!", is built on original music with easy dance moves and lyrics about feelings, everyday chaos and what to do when a bull ant bites your bum. It's been nominated for three Queensland Music Awards and featured on ABC Kids Listen. Susie also runs workshops teaching rhythm, singing and movement using percussion instruments and nursery rhymes children already know. The show scales up or down. In small rooms it's performed acoustically to keep the volume kind on young ears, with a six minute pack-in and pack-out. Larger venues get the PA and a stage so everyone can follow along.
The show
The show is called "Uh oh Spaghetti-oh!", and every song in it was written by Susanna O'Leary out of ordinary days with her own children. Dance moves are simple enough for a three year old to copy. The lyrics go where kids actually live: big feelings, everyday mess, and the correct response to a bull ant on the backside. Three Queensland Music Awards nominations sit behind it, and it has been played on ABC Kids Listen. Susie sings, plays ukulele and tin whistle, and runs recorded tracks underneath so it lands fuller than one person should sound.
On the day
The show scales to the room. In a small space it can run completely acoustic, which keeps the volume gentle for little ears and means pack-in and pack-out take about six minutes all up. For a bigger venue, a PA gets used and a stage is worth having, since children need to see her to copy the dance moves.
Performance options
There's the show itself, and there are workshops. Workshops mix percussive play, where kids get their hands on instruments and learn basic rhythms along to songs, singing sessions built on well-known books and nursery rhymes to help with reading and language, and a performance element singing and dancing to the original songs. Instruments and a portable speaker are provided. Book more than one session in a day and they're scheduled close together.
