About
Shorty Brown is a children's magician for hire in Byron Bay, NSW.
Shorty Brown has been entertaining kids for twenty-five years, and has done it around the world before settling into Byron Bay. Magic and comedy gags, big bubbles, circus and clowning, balloon twisting. The show is high energy and built on belly laughs, and it lands with the little ones and the tall ones standing at the back with a drink. You can book a comical kids show, a kids disco, or a party package with balloon twisting or a bubble workshop after the magic. He holds a Working with Children check. Allow forty-five minutes to set up the show, an hour for the disco.
The show
Twenty-five years of doing this, and it shows in the timing. Shorty Brown goes for belly laughs, the loud, unguarded kind that kids produce when something genuinely surprises them. The adults standing at the back tend to get caught too, which is the mark of a children's entertainer who's been at it long enough to know the parents are an audience as well. Big fun, played hard.
On the day
Timing varies by which booking you've made, so build it into your run sheet. The kids show needs 45 minutes of setup before it starts. The disco takes an hour. And a kids party is the quick one at around 15 minutes. Let him in the door early enough for whichever you've chosen and everything else looks after itself.
Performance options
There's the circus and clowning around show, and there's the kids disco. Balloon twisting workshops are their own thing, where children make something rather than just watch. And you can book the kids show with a bubble workshop tacked on to the end, so the laughing part comes first and then everyone gets to have a go themselves.
