Christy Moore or Less is a Celtic band for hire in Sydney, NSW.
A tribute show to Christy Moore, built by people who clearly love the man's songbook. The set runs deep: Ride On, Fairytale of New York, Dirty Old Town, City of Chicago, Black is the Colour, Spancil Hill, Beeswing, The Voyage, Only Our Rivers Run Free. Stories turn up between the tunes, same as they would at a real Christy gig. And they want you singing. If you reckon you know one of them, you're welcome to get up and have a craic. It's a duo at heart, with the option of adding an accordion or banjo player and a fiddle if you want more in the room. Solo works too. They need about 30 minutes and a clear space, raised if you've got one.
The show
Most of the songs you'd hope for, and the stories that go with them. That's the honest version. This is a tribute built for people who know the Christy Moore songbook well enough to sing along, so the between song chat matters as much as the playing. Expect the room to join in on the big ones. If you know the words, nobody minds you having a go.
On the day
Half an hour to get set and a clear space to play in. If you've got somewhere raised, a small stage or even a step up, that's better, though it isn't essential. Beyond that there's very little to organise.
Performance options
The core show is the two of them, Murray as Christy and a second player in the Declan Sinnott role. From there you can build it out: an accordion or banjo player is the usual addition, and a fiddle player on top of that fills the sound out for a bigger room. Tell them the space and the crowd and they'll suggest which version suits.
