About

Brazilian percussion at volume. O'Ziriguidum Escola de Samba play samba and samba-reggae rhythms with contemporary funk grooves worked through them, under music director Mark Grunden. The group spans a wide range of ages and backgrounds, which is part of why it adapts so easily between a street festival and a stage show. Two ways to book them. Static, on a stage, for at least half an hour. Or roving, moving through the crowd and pulling your guests into the middle of it. Drumming workshops can be added on top of either. They'll want a secure green room for cases and changing, plus ten minutes either side to set up and pack down. Melbourne.

Watch

The show

Brazilian drums, played loud, by a group whose members come from a wide spread of ages and backgrounds. Samba and samba-reggae rhythms sit at the centre, with funk grooves worked through them, under music director Mark Grunden. On a stage it's a proper show, intricate and physical, and there's the option to bring in samba dancers from the studio they work alongside. Roving is the other way to do it, with the group moving through the crowd so your guests end up in the middle of the noise rather than watching it. Workshops can hand people the sticks themselves.

On the day

Two practical things. First, a secure green room where the group can leave bags and drum cases and get changed, since there's a lot of gear and a lot of people. Second, a buffer of ten minutes either side of the performance to get the drums in position and clear them again afterwards. Sets run at least half an hour. If your venue's tech crew wants one, a stage plan with the technical detail can be sent through.

Performance options

Two performance formats and one add-on. Static means a stage set, at least thirty minutes of it. Parade means roving, moving through a crowd or along a street. The drumming workshop is available on top of either of those two, not on its own. Community events and non-profits are quoted differently from corporate and private bookings, so say which one yours is when you get in touch.
