About
Blueflies is a blues band for hire in Hobart, TAS.
Twenty three years holding down a residency at Hobart's Republic Bar says most of what you need to know. The Blueflies are a four man blues band, two guitars, bass and drums, covering Waits, Buddy Guy, BB King, Mavis Staples, Amos Lee, Eric Clapton, Charlie Musselwhite and Larkin Poe, with their own originals written in the same vein. They arrive with a PA and some lights, set up, play and pack down themselves. A stage would be nice. It isn't a requirement.
The show
Four men, two guitars, bass and drums. That's the whole band and it's a lean sound by design. They bring a PA and a lighting rig, get themselves in, play, and pack the lot down again at the end, so the venue's involvement starts and stops with providing the space. Three hours is the standard length for a night. A stage is welcome if you have one, though the floor does just as well.
