Scarlett Road is a bluegrass band for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Four women, four instruments, and a pile of stories from a long way back. Scarlett Road bring together Brenda Kelly on guitar, ukulele and lead vocals, Anne Marie Lawton on double bass and lead vocals, Gabrielle Kerr on fiddle and backing vocals, and Helen Matheson on banjo and backing vocals. Each of them came up through a different corner of music, and the mix lands somewhere between celtic, bluegrass, country, folk and old time, with originals in the set alongside Blue Moon of Kentucky, Wagon Wheel, Poor Ned and I'll Fly Away. Good for folk and country festivals, themed events, weddings, corporate nights and music clubs. Brisbane based. They'll play into a house PA or bring full sound.
The show
The four of them move between celtic, bluegrass, country, folk and old time across a set, with alternative country in the mix and instrumental tunes as well as songs. Some of what they play is their own writing, the rest is covers. It suits country and folk festivals most obviously, and any event leaning that way, which in practice means weddings with a country theme, music clubs and corporate nights. Sound can be supplied by the band where the room has none.
On the day
What the venue needs to have on hand is a full PA and backline. No drum kit is required, since nobody in the group plays one. Where the room cannot cover the sound side, Scarlett Road are able to bring a full rig of their own instead.
