About
Southern Curves Hula & Belly Dance. - Renee Thebellydancer is a belly dancer for hire in Adelaide, SA.
Two very different shows come out of Southern Curves, and both are built around getting your guests off their chairs. The belly dance set opens with an entrance number, then moves through veil work, Oriental style dance and a drum solo, with the audience pulled in along the way. At a birthday the guest of honour gets a hip belt and the middle of the floor before everyone else piles in. The Polynesian show starts gentler, with a Hawaiian song and flower leis handed out to keep, following the tradition properly. Based in Adelaide, with current clearances for work with children, people with disability and aged care settings. Give it a flat, non slip floor and a bit of headroom for the swords and wings.
The show
The belly dance set opens with an entrance song, then works through veil work, Oriental style dance and a drum solo, with guests drawn in along the way. At a birthday, the guest of honour gets lent a hip belt and put in the middle of the floor before everyone else joins. The Polynesian show starts softer, a gentle Hawaiian song with flower leis handed out for guests to keep, which is the traditional welcome, and it builds to a fast Tahitian finish with hand tassels. Longer bookings get the fuller version of either.
On the day
An even, non slip surface with enough room to move and spin without a costume catching on furniture or brushing guests. Ceiling height matters too: canes, swords and wings need clearance from hanging lights, decorations and ceiling fans. And she'll need a private, secure spot to change costumes and leave her belongings, out of sight of the room. Sorting those three things before the day means nothing gets rearranged in a hurry.
Performance options
The shortest booking is a single ten minute set in one costume, followed by ten to fifteen minutes mingling with guests. The middle option runs twenty minutes across two sets with a costume change, audience participation and mingling afterwards. The biggest is thirty to forty minutes, two sets, two costume changes, and props including the sword and wings, which the shorter formats leave out. That one can also combine belly dance with the Polynesian show, and includes photos with guests in both costumes. Serving ADF members and veterans have their own arrangement, so mention it when you enquire.
