Serpent Sisters is a belly dance act for hire in Byron Bay, NSW.
Tribal fusion belly dance, fire and silk, from a Byron Bay group who build each show around sharp choreography rather than loose improvisation. Fire props run to fans, swords, palms and staff. Silk fans and veils bring the colour, and contortion-inspired movement gets folded into the dance. There's a violinist who also dances, and stilt walking for events that need height and visibility. Packages run from a ten to fifteen minute indoor set for ceremonies through to a full festival stage show. Fire work needs venue or council approval and clearance from the crowd. Safety gear and a spotter come with the act, and the dancers carry their own insurance.

The show
Tribal fusion belly dance is the base, and the choreography is where the work shows: serpentine movement, sharp accents, transitions that flow into each other. Fire artistry runs through it with fans, swords, palms and staff. Silk fans and veils add colour and texture across the stage, and contortion inspired flexibility gets folded into the dance itself. One of the performers plays violin while she dances, so the music is partly live. For big events needing height and visibility, stilt walking can be added. Shows are put together to order for festivals, ceremonies, stage productions and private events.
On the day
Five metres by five is the smallest floor that works, and more is better once fire, stilts or extra performers come into it. Ceiling height counts too. Fire acts need venue or council sign off and three metres of clearance from guests and anything flammable; blankets, extinguishers and a spotter come from the group. Sound needs AUX, Bluetooth or USB input, plus a mic for the violin and lighting bright enough for the props. Backstage, a secure changing space nearby and water. Clear paths for stilts, clean flooring for contortion, shelter outdoors so wind misses the silks.
