About
The Fed Peasants is a band for hire in Adelaide, SA.
Six players out of Adelaide: guitar, bass, piano, violin, percussion and voice. The Fed Peasants write their own songs, mostly upbeat folk with jazz, blues, bossa nova and 60s pop working their way in around the edges. The lyrics do real work, and the harmonies are where the group is at its best, with the violin and piano carrying a lot of the colour underneath. Titles include Urban Tonic, Flight, Rat Race, Ship in the Sky and One Black Violin, plus the odd cover. Danceable, but there's something to listen to as well. They can bring everything for a smaller function; a bigger room will need extra PA.
Watch
The show
Music with something behind it, played for fun rather than for show. The group harmonies are the part that gets people, along with the violin and piano lines running underneath. Lyrics are properly written and weave through the arrangements instead of sitting on top of them. Then the bass and drums come in with a groove that pulls a floor together without much persuasion. You can listen closely or you can dance, and plenty of rooms end up doing both.
On the day
For a smaller function they arrive with the full kit and nothing further is needed. Bigger rooms are the exception: those want extra PA on top of what the band carries. Tell them the venue size when you enquire and they'll say which category yours falls into.
