About
Revelation Groove is a band for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Eight players, and a sound that borrows from Latin, jazz, funk, blues, gypsy and soul without settling on any one of them. Revelation Groove is a Brisbane band built around original songs, with covers pulled out when the occasion suits. The line-up runs keyboards, accordion, bass, guitar, saxophone, percussion, violin, drums and vocal harmonies. Several members write, so the material shifts a lot from song to song: train stations, protest, dogs, insomnia, politics, love gone wrong. Their influences give you the map, from Astor Piazzolla and Miles Davis through to Nick Cave and Amy Winehouse. Covers on hand include Master Blaster, Back to Black, Red Right Hand, Cissy Strut and Ghost Town. Some numbers get people dancing. Some are for sitting down with.
Watch
The show
Original music first, played by eight people who plainly enjoy doing it. Revelation Groove have several songwriters in the band, so the styles move around a fair bit across a set while still sounding like the same group. Alongside their own material they keep a stack of funky covers ready, and a special request for a particular occasion is something they'll take on. Some of it gets people up. Some of it is better sat down with a drink.
On the day
Their preference is a venue that already has sound and lighting in place, plus a sound tech who knows that room properly. That combination gets the best result from an eight piece. Where the venue can't offer it, the band can bring a small front of house system and their own tech instead, so an unequipped room is still workable. Say which situation you're in when you enquire.
