About
Natural Wings is an acrobat for hire in Margaret River, WA.
Dawn performs aerial dance at sunset, with her own rig and lighting and speakers that run off batteries, so a beach, a vineyard or a paddock works as well as any stage. The show runs 35 minutes, and she'll usually stay another quarter hour to mingle while the kids attempt cartwheels. She's an actor and circus performer who has toured internationally and won the Toronto Buskerfest, one of the largest street arts festivals in the world. Based in Margaret River, Natural Wings also offers stilt dancing with two performers, roving entertainment, short indoor aerial spots for corporate events, and circus or pilates workshops alongside a show.
Watch
The show
Aerial dance at dusk, done properly. Dawn brings her own rig, plus basic sound and lighting for smaller crowds, so the show can happen on a beach, in a vineyard or in a paddock. The performance runs 35 minutes and she likes to leave another 15 on the end for mingling with the audience while the kids have a go at cartwheeling. She mixes the aerial work with true stories and a fair bit of humour. Having pioneered the genre in WA since 2005, with degrees in performance making and circus behind her, she's happy working outdoors even when the wind is up.
On the day
She needs 9 x 7 metres of reasonably flat ground, grass or concrete for preference, and a vehicle has to be able to reach the spot. Program it for dusk rather than full sun. Sound and lighting are on you once the crowd goes past 500. A change room is appreciated. Allow an hour to get set up and half an hour to pack down afterwards.
Performance options
The aerial show covers rigging, the rig itself, a one of a kind costume made in New Zealand, all safety documentation and rehearsals, with basic sound and lighting included for smaller audiences close to home. You can add an hour long workshop alongside it, either ground based circus skills or gentler pilates. Stilt dancing with two performers is a separate option. And for indoor corporate events there's a short aerial spot of around five minutes.
